Weekend Review

I am sitting here thinking how incredible it is that this (former) itty bitty will be two months old tomorrow!! We had a doctor's appointment last week where he weighed in at 9 lb. 14 oz...by now I am sure that he has surpassed the 10 pound mark--way to go baby!

Every now and then, when I feel like I don't have enough to worry about, I like to pull out What To Expect The First Year and see where Drew is as far as reaching his milestones go...versus where they say he should be. Actually, they aren't that strict about it, it's just hard not to worry that he's not keeping up!! By this time, among other things, Drew will probably be able to life his head 45 degrees...

Check!

Though that task is often followed up with a lot of this...

Other tasks Drew is excelling at are vocalizing in ways other than cooing, holding head steady when upright, raising chest while on stomach and smiling spontaneously. We are working on rolling over (one way), reaching for objects, and bringing both hands together.

We have also moved on from the arduous task of sponge bathing to filling his tub with water and bathing him...



He actually quite enjoys it at this point, though it makes me too nervous to do it without Greg helping...he is quite slippery when wet!! Oh, and he really is NOT as chubby as he appears in this picture, though I love the expression on his face:)

While Greg's actual birthday is tomorrow, he and I hosted his birthday dinner for our families at our house on Memorial Day. We kept it casual with cookout food and red velvet cake for dessert (Greg's request!). While I spent the morning cooking and baking, mom and Drew spent the morning doing this...

I have always loved the idea of a square picnic table with benches as seating and Greg was sweet enough to spend the day of the party building one for me. I love it and can't wait to use it! Greg and I have spent a lot of time planning the backyard, and now actually turning those plans into reality, and I love how it is turning out. After two summers of not being able to use it, hopefully we will be able to spend a lot of time out there this summer!

Greg and I have been snapping pictures like crazy the last few days...here are a few favorites!

This seems to be Drew's signature, wide-eyed expression--we have many similiar photos!

Tummy time has gotten a lot easier lately...I try to put him on his tummy, either on the floor or the boppy for a few minutes a day. To catch him on his tummy, raising his head and NOT crying is a big deal!

Andrew's second new trick of the week is grasping toys! He will only do it for a few seconds, but that blurry thing in his hand is a rattle (made by Granny)! Mamma was so proud!!

Pretty Darn Precious

While Greg went out to get breakfast and the paper this morning, Drew and I had a little Mother's Day photo shoot. He was so patient with me while I snapped a couple dozen pictures...maybe he knew today was special?

Drew has just, in the past week or so, started smiling. My goal this morning was to catch one on camera. While this first one wasn't his biggest smile of the morning, I think it qualifies.

And just in case you were thinking that Drew is the absolute, most photogenic baby ever and it would be impossible to take a picture of him where you didn't want to grab him through the monitor and just eat him up (you were thinking that, right?), I present Exhibit A.

If you've noticed anything different about Drew over the past couple of weeks, it's probably the fact that he has put on some weight! We had a Dr. appointment last Monday, where he weighed in at a respectable 7 lb. 12 oz., and then we went in today for his one-month appointment, and found out that he had gained 14 oz. in a week! Yep, Little Man is now 8 lb. 10 oz....that is two ounces gained every day last week! Baby Drew is now, funnily, the size of the average newborn:) With his length measuring 20 1/4 inches, he is in the 25th percentile for weight, and 15th percentile for height. He seems to have a pretty rapid rate of growth, though, so hopefully we will see those numbers climb even more!

I have more to share--but Drew is calling! I will hopefully be back sooner rather than later!!
