7 weeks and counting

Just a warning...this post will, in all likelihood, be very random--that's what usually happens when I sit down at the computer without a set topic in mind. Greg is upstairs putting together the crib that...hold on a sec, we have some live action blogging going on here...Greg just came down and asked if I was going to take pictures of him putting the crib together for the blog, how could I refuse? So just in case you didn't believe me when I said he was putting the crib together, here's your proof...

Anyway, Greg is putting together the crib we picked up tonight from Target (thanks mom and dad!), we have our yummy brown paint color picked out for the nursery (Valspar Khaki), and have chosen the nursery fabric (top set from 2 posts ago--thanks to everyone who helped in that decision!).
With 7 weeks to go, we are definitely in preparation mode, and it seems very odd to me that in less than two months we will be parents. I'm not sure how it will feel as we get closer to the date, but for now, it's just kind of odd and surreal. And the closer that the baby gets to his birthday, and the more able that he is to survive just fine and dandy in this world without the protection of my tender, loving uterus, the more I would love to just keep him safe and sound inside of me forever, no birthing necessary, thankyouverymuch...plus, it would solve that whole crib/nursery/childproofing hassle that just seems tedious at this point in the game. So does anybody else feel this way? Or are you just chuckling to yourself because you know that in a few more weeks I will be ready to kill to have this baby out of me?
P.S. Speaking of which, just for the record, this kid is definitely making his presence in my uterus known...to think that I couldn't feel him at all a month or so ago.
P.P.S. The above tulips were from Greg for Valentine's Day--I love how tulip stems get all wonky and bendy after a couple of days...I think it gives them so much charm.
P.P.S. So in the time it took me to type this post, Greg has finished putting together the crib...is he handy, or what?

Week 31

Greg and I had our first of 3 bi-weekly appointments today, and it really does feel like we are flying through this pregnancy! I know I won't be able to say that for long, so I'm going to enjoy the feeling while it lasts. It was an especially exciting appointment as we had an ultrasound scheduled. Though a third ultrasound isn't routine, my doctor wanted one since I am at a higher risk of blood clots, and with this higher risk comes the possibility of growth problems for the baby, so she wanted to make sure that everything was on track. Fortunately for us, though, everything seems to be going well! Baby Smith is weighing in at 3 pounds, 11 ounces, which puts him in the 25th percentile for weight. It was great to get to see all of his different body parts and facial features--he really is starting to look like a little person!

Unfortunately, though, he has currently nestled himself into the breech position, which can cause issues if he doesn't reposition himself in the next two months. We were told that he will probably turn himself around before then, but there really are no guarantees, nor is there a whole lot we can do to coax him to change positions. My doctor suggested a couple of positions that rely on the power of gravity to try to force the baby to somersault into a head-down position, but, there seems to be no evidence that they actually work. So...we have another ultrasound scheduled in a month! The baby's growth and position will be rechecked, and we will see where we are!
