Today we hit our 7 week mark! Just 2 more weeks until we can visit our doctor, have an ultrasound, and voice the concerns every nervous, expectant mother has. Namely, Can I really not color my hair for 7 1/2 more months?? Also, that whole no caffeine thing is more of a recommendation than a requirement, right? Ha ha, actually the caffeine thing is easier than I expected it to be-I just order the same drink decaf, and hardly notice the difference. Harder, though, is life without herbal and green teas. I never knew that they were a problem! I honestly don't have a lot of questions for my doctor. Anything I've wanted to know I've either consulted either my pregnancy books, friends or the internet. I'll probably have her clarify a few things, but that's about it at this point.
A rather unpleasant symptom has made its appearance this week. Namely, multiple food aversions coupled with the need to eat every hour and a half. Food aversions so far include peanuts, shrimp, Chinese food, fast food, whole wheat pasta (see below) and apparently anything residing in my fridge. Which, as you can imagine, makes meal time real fun. While the aversions have been rather mild, when you are as hungry as often as I've been, it's quite a challenge to be so picky all of a sudden.
Greg asked me specifically to blog about a particular pasta incident that occurred at our house last week, which I will do for you here. Now, let me say for the record that I blame all food aversions and cravings on the baby, who exclusively knows what he needs for optimal development and growth. Greg, on the other hand, just blames general craziness on my part, but you know, tomato, tomahto.
So last week at some point I decided I wanted spaghetti for dinner. I got home, Greg and I started making dinner, and I realized that I didn't have spaghetti. Now, in our house, this normally wouldn't be a problem, as our on-hand pasta supply is abundant. Fettuccini, whole-wheat spaghetti, farfalle, spirals, elbow macaroni all live together in happy harmony underneath our cabinets. But, on this day, I decided that nothing other than good ole Semolina would do. So the husband did what the husband had to do, and went out into the rain and stood in line at Ukrop's for a single box of spaghetti. Any words of encouragement to get him through the next 7 months will be appreciated, I'm sure.
